(Okay. By now you guys should know how to dump and inject save files onto your SD cards, right? If you don’t then stop reading this right now and go look at one of my older posts - everything you need to know is there.

First off I’ll give you all a briefing on what exactly the Ram Editor is and what it does. The Ram Editor is an in-browser tool that runs on html. It allows you to upload your ram file (this is only temporary, so bear this in mind when using it.) and lets you edit various locations of your ram file.

Using the editor is actually really simple. However, the majority of its simplicity relies on what you’re trying to do. For example, it’s almost effortless to spawn items, place bushes, trees etc into your town using the tool, though moving buildings and PWPs is fairly difficult to do.

Moving on… When you first upload your RAM file to the editor you’re presented with 5 glorious tabs to choose from.

I’ll explain each individual tab as much as possible so that you can gain a more fluid understanding of how the editor functions.

Here’s the URL to the editor:http://usuaris.tinet.cat/mark/acnl_editor/

Map

The map tab allows you to make direct edits to your town. You’ll be presented with a glorious overview of the current squares in your town. If you use the drop down list below the main tab you’ll see a huge list of all of the available things which you can place (trees, money, furniture, tools and even fish & bugs). That’s pretty much everything about the Map tab. You should use it as a reference when you’re moving buildings and pwps, though the squares aren’t numbered so it’s quite literally a guessing game… Just remember that the square coordinates start at 16x16, not 0x0.

Dressers

Using the dressers tab you’ll have the power to edit your entire dresser, inventory and all of your badges. The dresser tab shares the same huge drop down list as the Map and Island tab, so if you’d prefer to spawn things into the game straight into your inventory or dresser instead of spawning stuff onto your town floor, you can. You also have the ability to select what badges you have and what type (i.e gold, silver & bronze). Some of the badges haven’t yet been translated from hex code into the editor, so there are some without names (though it doesn’t really matter much as most of you will just set every badge to gold lol).

Lastly, with the dresser tab you’re given a preview of what your character’s TCP picture, alongside previews of all 8 of your patterns.

I should have mentioned this earlier, but right next to the drop down menu you’ll see another smaller one with the options (EN, ENU, FR, IT, DE, ES) These just change some of the names in the bigger drop down menu, as some items have been translated differently on different nationalities of the game (hence the abbreviations).

Crossing

Island

Literally the same as the Map tab, only it displays your island and its contents. (Yes, your game will be perfectly okay if you spawn in trees, bushes, rocks and other things which aren’t there legitimately.)

Villagers

Galore! Your days of frantically hunting villagers on animal crossing forums are over! With this tab you’re able to change ANY of your villagers to whomever you please! This tool works perfectly! Though be warned, once you change a villager it WILL lose all of the items, letters, time and dedication you’ve spent into socialising with it. Using this tab will literally spawn “brand new” villagers into your town, only instead of pitching up their houses atop your beautiful hybrid garden, they’ll move into the house of the pre existing villager from whom you changed.

Realised that was a bit confusing… I’ll give an example. Gigi moves into your town. You use the ram editor and change Gigi to Marshal. Marshal is now in your town permanently instead of Gigi. His house is even in the same location!

Buildings

Finally, the last tab. Here you’re able to change the colour of your town hall & train station. Also, you’re given a preview of what patterns reside in your Mable & Able shop.

You’re also able to move ANY building or PWP in your town using this. If you’re a pro at battle ships then you’ll have no sweat editing your town with this, however if you’re not then it’ll definitely take some getting used to.

There’s really not much I can tell you guys about the buildings tab. It’s mostly self-explanatory. Just remember that the offsets start at 16x16. Also when editing bear in mind that you CAN break your game using this, so be extra careful! If this does occur then this should be no problem, as you have to save your game in order for your ram to be permanently saved onto your game cart.

One last thing. When you save your edit ram file it should save as “acnlram (1).ram” When reinserting this ram file into your game you MUST remove the (1) so that your ram file’s name is strictly “acnlram.bin”

Happy hacking!

*Next post I’ll show you how to edit your map layout, so your river pattern, beach and ponds!*
